ArtvsArtist 2023

Becoming comfortable perceiving myself as an artisan

In december 2023 - already then trying to build my website - I participated in another Instagram community tradition: Show your work of this year with 8 artworks, arranged around a foto of yourself, being posted in december. I loved it as it was a very visible sign of artistic growth, compared with the work done the year before. I was proud of what I have learned in Eugénie's course: She focussed on the various possibilities of motif layouts, which are often rooted in old weaving traditions. I became more familiar with Adobe Illustrator's pen tool and was not limited to vectorize hand drawn motifs. I found a lovely community on Instagram and still had the regular meetings of our so called 'study group': 5 women passionate about surface pattern design who all did the same surface pattern design course. I like writing - albeit being self concious about its quality - about the near past, as reflecting on their learnings, their beautiful and difficult experiences is a calming round off; at the same time it offers good practices and insight into areas I like to maintain, discard or build upon. I hope you enjoy the selection of patterns and spot graphics as much as I do.
