my pattern design education began

I remember so clearly what I did and how I felt nearly 3 years ago. I committed to a nine week online course promising to teach Adobe Illustrator to aspiring surface pattern designers. Oh, was I excited and a bit scared; and on and off doubts crept into my mind as to what this was all about anyway. I had starting doodeling, drawing shapes and lines with fineliners a year previously. Literally out of the blue, this urge to draw, learn about art related content, like binge watching videos about the golden cut, doodeling every day and being a regular customer at the nearby art supply shop. I started blockprinting, taking me back to being a 14 year old schoolgirl learning this in school. Soon I realized that cutting into a block with sharp objects needs a plan, a design, ha. This is when I started researching online, discovering other 'homegrown art buffs' and a ton of education and online courses. I loved it, was confused about my new passion, waited for it to pass, it did not. Now, 3 years later, artisan work, being it blockprinting, sewing, designing motifs and repeat patterns digitally are very much ingrained in my daily life; and I have understood this to be an addition to my personality. Just wonderful.
